Mariposa, California

Mariposa, California is an old gold rush town that offers travelers easy access to Yosemite National Park. And while the national park offers up the most photo opportunities, it’s not the only ‘Gram-worthy location in town. Visitors can also get outside and explore the Stockton Creek Preserve. Here, hiking trails, the reservoir, and plenty of vibrant greenery make an ideal backdrop.

Of course, nothing quite compares to the beauty of Yosemite. Travelers venturing into the national park will want to hit up popular photo spots such as the Cathedral Beach Picnic Area. Not only is this spot perfect for taking a little lunch break, but it also offers access to Merced River and provides clear views of El Capitan. Those who are up for a bit of a hike can also take amazing photos at Taft Point. 

West Glacier, Montana

Whether you’re looking to pose in cozy chalets, snap some waterproof shots on Flathead River, or take panoramic pictures of nearby mountains, West Glacier, Montana is the place to do it. The small picturesque town offers access to the west entrance of Glacier National Park where outdoor lovers will find ample opportunities to capture a bit of beauty.

According to the National Parks website, visitors will find melting glaciers, alpine meadows, carved valleys, spectacular lakes, and over 700 miles of hiking trails throughout Glacier National Park. And although all 700+ miles of hiking trails have something to offer, the Trail of the Cedars is particularly serene complete with boardwalks and the stunning Avalanche Gorge.

Carlsbad, New Mexico

Bat-filled caverns, unbelievable sunsets, and flowering cacti are just a few of the Instagramable sites you’ll see in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Anyone who’s been dying to use those famous TLC lyrics as an Instagram caption will want to first check out the 150-foot waterfall at Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area. The recreation area sits just outside of Carlsbad and offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and ADA-accessible paths leading to the falls.

If you’re looking to snap a few wildlife or cacti photos, then the Living Desert Zoo is the place for you. Here, visitors can see, “more than 40 species of animals and hundreds of species of plants native to the Chihuahuan Desert,” according to the zoo’s website. Of course, a trip to Carlsbad isn’t complete until you head underground at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The park has a total of 119 caves as well as an abundance of desert flora and fauna. 

Halibut Cove, Alaska

Halibut Cove, Alaska is a small town on Ismailof Island, only accessible by boat. The town was once a small fishing village and has since grown into a hotspot for culture, art, and outdoor exploration. Despite the increase in popularity, the fishing village culture is still alive and well in this little town and it makes for some seriously cute photo ops. Places like the floating houseboat turned USPS Post Office and the Halibut Cove Lagoon Ranger Station are just a few of the town’s must-sees.

Another site you won’t want to miss is the West Ismailof Island Lighthouse. The lighthouse, which you can book accommodations in, sits on the edge of a rocky cliff surrounded by unreal views of towering trees, cliffsides, and the surrounding water. Not far from the lighthouse, visitors will find The Saltry Restaurant. The popular dining spot is only open in the summer months but offers incredible views and photo opportunities from its outdoor patio.
